Pitch shift, explained.
Pitch shift moves the notes higher or lower while retaining the original duration. Sonic combines time stretching with resampling so the exported recording keeps its length instead of simply playing faster or slower.
Every parameter, explained
Pitch
-12 semitones to 12 semitones · Default 3 semitonesPitch is measured in semitones from −12 to +12. Zero is unchanged; +12 moves notes up an octave and −12 down an octave. Each semitone multiplies frequency by approximately 1.05946. The default +3 raises a 440 Hz note to about 523 Hz.
A good place to start
Try −2 or +2 semitones before making a large shift. For creative character changes, try an octave, then listen closely to speech and the ends of sustained notes.
What to listen for
Vocal formants are not preserved, so voices can become smaller or deeper as pitch changes. Large shifts may sound grainy, and complex percussion can lose definition. It does not identify the key or choose a musically compatible transposition for you.
Does a pitch shift change the track length?
This effect keeps the original duration. Use Sped up or Slowed + reverb when you want pitch and speed to change together.
Make a version you want to keep
Upload your audio or try the sample, adjust the controls above, then click Apply effects. Select Original and Result to compare. Change the settings and apply again to revise. Every revision starts from the untouched original, and Download WAV saves the latest applied version. The player’s Volume control changes only listening volume.
