Compressor

Reduce louder passages with linked stereo dynamics and adjustable makeup gain.

Every parameter, explained

Threshold

-48 dB to 0 dB · Default -24 dB

Audio above this level is compressed. Lower values affect more of the recording.

Ratio

1:1 to 12:1 · Default 4:1

How strongly audio above the threshold is reduced: at 4:1, 4 dB above the threshold becomes about 1 dB after the compressor settles.

Attack

1 ms to 100 ms · Default 10 ms

How quickly gain reduction reacts to a louder passage. Short attacks tame transients; longer attacks preserve more impact.

Release

20 ms to 1000 ms · Default 150 ms

How quickly gain returns after the signal falls. Short releases can pump; long releases sound smoother.

Makeup gain

0 dB to 12 dB · Default 3 dB

Gain added after compression. Start low and compare at similar listening levels. Automatic peak protection still applies.

A good place to start

Try the sample or upload a short recording. Apply the defaults, compare Original and Result, then adjust one parameter at a time. Revisions on this page start from your original recording.

What to listen for

Attack and release smooth the gain changes. Stereo channels share the same gain to preserve their balance. Peak protection may reduce excessive makeup gain.

Compare a quiet passage and a busy passage at a comfortable listening volume. The player volume changes playback only; it does not change the downloaded audio.

Can I combine this with other effects?

Yes. Open the combination studio and choose this effect along with any others. Effects run in the displayed order, and completed stages are reused. Changing or removing an earlier effect rebuilds the affected stages.

Once processing finishes, compare the result and download MP3 or WAV. MP3 encoding runs locally and does not apply the effects again.
